Youth Advocacy In Action: I Bike Because

Youth Advocacy

This fall, the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) came together and made this awesome, “I Bike Because” video to highlight bicycling in the Rainier Valley.

More about the YAC

Progs: Noah & Erica at Kids Bike-o-Rama

Two youth sit side by side behind a table smiling at the camera. The table is barely visible under all of the paperwork. There is a parking lot in the background.

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is made up of truly amazing Bike Works youth that are dedicated to facilitating conversation and decision making at Bike Works and reflect the wishes of Bike Works youth. They are driven and devoted to furthering the mission and vision of the Bike Works community. They are awesome!

The YAC are the young leaders and mentors at Bike Works. They are active members in their community, volunteering at events like Kids Bike-o-Rama (Pictured: Noah and Erika volunteering at Kids Bike-o-Rama. Erika is wearing her YAC sweatshirt, designed by the youth themselves!), acting as peer mentors at Bike Works drop-in mechanic sessions, and representing Seattle on the national Youth Bicycle Summit.

Youth Bicycle Summit

Every year, a group of young leaders head to the National Youth Bike Summit to have their voices heard and represent Seattle at the national level.

The Youth Bike Summit is a unique opportunity for our youth to engage the local community and strengthen the national bicycle movement while learning the skills they need to become empowered bicycle leaders. It’s also an incredible chance for youth involved with Bike Works to form significant and impactful relationships within the larger cycling and advocacy community.

This year, it will be hosted in Washington D.C. by Phoenix Bikes.

When we support each other we can all achieve more. You can support our young leaders by making a contribution today. Your contribution will directly support the leadership development intrinsic in Bike Works programming.
