This year, Bike Works is teaming up with Cascade to bring you a bicycle-tastic PARK(ing) Day!

A piece of paper displays brightly colored letters spelling out, “Bike Works Parking Day”. It is surrounded by plates holding paint and bicycle tools.

Stop by and hang out with us at our PARK(ing) Day pop-up installation, where we’re transforming a block of parking into a place for people!

PARK(ing) Day is Friday, September 15th from 9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m. Feel free to drop in for any amount of time to hang out. We will be on Rainier Ave between Edmunds St. and Ferdinand St. in Columbia City.

Join us for a day of awesome activities including: games, bike art, snacks, learn to fix a flat tire, storytelling, and more.

Come relax, hang out, and enjoy fun times imagining bike and pedestrian friendly streets in the Rainier Valley!

What is PARK(ing) Day?

As described at, “PARK(ing) Day is a annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat – at least until the meter runs out!”

Bike Works is looking for a couple of awesome volunteers willing to help activate the space by running activities, participating in the fun, and spreading the word about Bike Works. Have questions, or want to get involved? Contact Selina Urena at Make sure you’ve filled out the volunteer application form!
