Major Taylor Ride
Bike Works invites you join us as we celebrate the 139th birthday of Marshall “Major Taylor”, the Black Cyclone. Major Taylor had to brave more than the competition to become one of the most acclaimed cyclists of the world. As a teenager, Taylor burst onto the world stage and began winning renowned cycling competitions in an era where it was not uncommon for racers to suffer from sleep deprivation and hallucinations while drafting behind pace motorcycles, sometimes reaching speeds of 60 mph!
Ride with us to celebrate the birthday of the cycling champion who broke the color barrier and forever won a place of admiration and awe in our hearts and minds.
Ride with Us
Meet at the Bike Works warehouse (3715 S Hudson St. Seattle, WA 98118) at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 22nd. We will roll out by 6:30 p.m. following a route through Columbia City, Mt. Baker, and Central District ending at the newly opened Happy Grillmore to warm up with burgers, pie, brews, good company and conversation!
We will ride, rain or shine, so bring your rain gear, warm layers and lights! Bonus points to those who wear their Bike Works t-shirts and wool jerseys. All riders are free to disburse from the end point at their own leisure.
There will not be a return group ride to Bike Works. The pace will be casual. Fun is guaranteed!
Send your R.S.V.P to Jasmine@bikeworks.org to let us know you’ll be joining us.
