*EVENT UPDATE* Due to a variety of unforeseen circumstances, we have canceled our Major Taylor’s Birthday Party event, and instead invite our community to join us at Cranksgiving.
The 13th annual Cranksgiving is a food drive scavenger hunt by bike to support local food banks. This year, Seattle Bike Blog and Cascade Bicycle Club’s Pedaling Relief Project are co-hosting. Cranksgiving supports Byrd Barr Place Food Bank, Rainier Valley Food Bank, and University District Food Bank. Riders of all ages and styles are welcome! Costumes are encouraged and there will be prizes.
We invite our community to join Bike Works staff and board in this free, festive celebration of mutual aid by bike. Cyclists will be asked to purchase food & toiletries from grocery stores to donate to food banks ($20 – $30 per person). REI has generously offered to cover $30 in groceries for up to 70 participants so that cost won’t be a barrier to participate.
A schedule of events is as follows:
9:00 AM: Meet at Byrd Barr Place Food Bank
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Scavenger Hunt!
1:00 – 3:30 PM: After Party at Central Cinema.
We still plan to donate the funds previously raised through registration to local filmmaker Eugene Pak to support the production of his film, Riding Han. We look forward to sharing a trailer for this film at the Cranksgiving after party. Cyrille Vincent recently received grant funding for his film, Whirlwind, and is starting production!
Note: the Bike Works Bike Shop in Columbia City will act as a drop-site for the Rainier Valley Food Bank for any cyclists who want to save themselves a few miles of pedaling.
