Adult Bike Repair Classes

Our Adult Programs offer the same fun, friendly, and accessible high-quality bike education as our Youth Programs and are open to people 18 years old and up! You can pay the full registration price or we offer reduced class prices in return for volunteer service. The volunteer work trade model is a way for us to give back to our volunteers and to invite our students to participate in our volunteer community.

Registration opens one month before the class begins. If you don’t see the class you want, then please check back later! Scroll down to register.

Bike Repair 101

In these classes, you will learn how to fix flats, overhaul bearing systems, and adjust gears & brakes. Participants will work on bikes provided by Bike Works. After you build your wrenching skills, bring your bike to our Open Shop community repair space to give your bike the tune-up it deserves, or attend our Volunteer Repair Parties to help Bike Works repair bikes that we donate back out into the community.

Virtual Bike Repair 101
A fresh take on our most popular class! Through a virtual approach, we will teach you how to fix a flat tire, overhaul basic bearing systems, replace cables and housing, and adjust brakes and shifting all from the comfort of your home.

Class will meet virtually every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 PM for three weeks (10/20/20 – 11/5/20).

Registered students will receive all supplies for their classes delivered to their homes if they live in the 98108, 98118, 98144, 98168, and 98178 zip codes – if you do not live in these zip codes, you will need to pick up the supplies (Mountain Bike/Stand/Tools) the week before classes start.  Students will need to return ALL tools and supplies, as well as the bikes after all of the classes have ended. After the bikes are checked, they will go to youth and adults in our Bikes-for-All program in SE Seattle.

Price is pay-what-you-can. Suggested tuition of $120, or $175 “pay-it-forward” to support another student.

Bike Repair 201

This peer led class is intended to help build the skills of our adult volunteers and graduates of Bike Repair 101. Students of 201 will get to choose topics from the 101 curriculum that they would like to teach back to the class. Each week will allow new teachers to collaborate, give instruction, and receive feedback. Two of the six repair sessions will be taught by the instructor and will cover advanced repair lessons such as wheel truing and rear hub overhaul. Learning these advanced skills plus teaching the basics will earn the graduates of this class a Park Tool School Certificate, as well as the opportunity to teach future classes at Bike Works!
